Thank you for your interest in the Exodus Project. Here is a brief FAQ about Exodus and what we offer.
Q: Who are you?
A: My name is Joshua Woodruff, and I am the administrator. My original partner in this endeavor was Tony, the webmaster. Currently, however, I am working on the site with Lucas.
Q: What is the Project?
A: I saw a need in the role-playing community for somewhere to host files and run chat rooms using the commercially available DigiChat engine. In the beginning, we were going to be only one chat, but realized we couldn't pay the bills alone and that we had a lot of extra horsepower that we weren't using. So I opened the project to others, and have been pleasantly surprised by the response.
Q: How much is it per month?
A: Currently, our bandwidth, server costs and Licensing fees total 12.50 USD per Month, Per Chat. The Exodus Projects maintains what we like to call 'profit neutrality' - meaning that we do not attempt to make a buck by hosting your chats. As such, any additional funds we recieve, including overage from monthly chat fees or donations, goes right back into the projects and often turns into savings for the people that fund their respective chats. Ultimately, our goal is to provide a cost-effective environment for people to host chats based around their favorite role-playing games, and this business model suits that perfectly.
Q: What do we get for our money?
A: 50 simultaneous chatters, 25 mb of disk space (dice rollers, chat rules and setting, whatever), SQL database, and the use of the shared T3 connection. Also, a programmer and a coder, being myself and Lucas P. respectively. I'm usually available by instant message (either MSN or by emailing my Cell phone), and Lucas can be contacted through MSN, Email or Cell Phone too.
Q: Any contracts to sign?
A: This has been a gray spot that I've not well addressed yet. There are no contracts beyond something called a "gentleman\'s agreement". Your responsibilities as the head of your chat (the person who pays the bills, in other words) are to do some things that promote the well being of the project.
Q: What about your end of the affair?
A: I have only two rules really. Firstly, it's your chat, I'm just hosting. I will not interfere with the politics and internal structure of your chat, unless there is something that is affecting the project. Then I reserve the right to do whatever is necessary to protect the interests of the project. Secondly, if there is a legal threat sworn against your chat, I will not defend you with my legal counsel. I have heard stories about people threatening to sue over things that have happened in chat rooms. I honestly don't want any part of them.
Q: Okay. So what systems can you handle?
A: Currently we have designed character sheets and the associated databases for White Wolf's "Old (Original) World of Darkness" and the D20 system as they are the most popular. If you want to run a game under a different system, we'll ask your help in designing the sheets.
